Fund raising events

  Over the last 4 years we have raised about £100,000. Fund raising activities include:

  • Christmas street collections in Epping and nearby communities
  • Race nights
  • Auctions of Promises
  • Concerts and Dance evenings
  • Bridge drives
  • Quiz nights
  • Charity Golf days
  • Collections at events eg Carols on the Green at Christmas
  • Foundation dinners/barbeques
  • Sponsored challenges eg mast climbs
  • Raffles at social events
  • Surplus from Youth Makes Music concerts, Carnival and Fireworks Display, Copped Hall Fun Run.

Several fund raising activities have also been designed as popular community events. Helping to organise the annual Epping Town Show, with Epping Town Council, has superseded the annual Carnival and Fireworks Display.Carols on the Green attracts many local people.

Local charities and good causes

The international dimension

Rotary is an international movement. The Rotary Club of Epping plays it's part by:

  • allowing young people to experience family life abroad through the Youth Exchange scheme;
  • sponsoring medical students to experience healthcare in the third world;
  • supporting young people in need in Uganda and Jamaica ;
  • helping provision of vital ultra-sound equipment in remote rural health centres in Pakistan ;
  • collecting unwanted tools and spectacles for overseas use;
  • paying for Aquaboxes and Shelter Boxes for disaster areas (eg Asian tsunami);
  • contributing to Mercy Ships (travelling hospitals) and to an anti-malaria project in Africa ;
  • raising money for WaterAid

Fun and Fellowship

An important part of Club activity is our social and sports scene ! We not only enjoy each others company at our normal lunchtime meetings and fund-raising events. We also make sure that our programme includes functions designed to be fun.

These include evening meetings and barbeques with family and friends, dance evenings (eg Burns Night), annual visits to Eastbourne or Bournemouth to meet up with other Clubs in London District, and visiting/hosting our twin Rotary Clubs in Germany and France .

And the Club has a tradition of competing in all the annual sports and games competitions between Clubs in the London District ! There are over 20 different competitions ranging from backgammon, badminton and bowls to scrabble, snooker and ten pin bowling. The Club is proud to have been overall winner on several occasions in recent years and is the current holder of the Fellowship Cup !
